I Give My Word

I Give My Word is an after-school program for high school and middle school students that integrates academic curriculum with the performing arts to celebrate diversity, promote character development, and reduce bullying and prejudice in the classroom.

Based on a different theatrical presentation each season, I Give My Word communicates the importance of embracing tolerance by addresses racial and gender stereotypes that exist in today’s society.

Participating students:

  • Attend a theatrical presentation at the Palace
  • Participate in a comprehensive workshop series that integrates academic curriculum in Social  Studies, Current Events, Language Arts and Theater Arts
  • Learn how to express their thoughts about social issues currently affecting their lives through personal poetry and memoir writing
  • Present their poetry and give their ‘word’ (ie, pledge) in a public presentation at the Palace to practice the six pillars of character development (respect, responsibility, fairness, citizenship, caring and trustworthiness) as a means to create positive change in their community.
