Waterbury Arts Magnet School (WAMS) presents RHYTHM GRIOTS (storytellers) Tony Vacca, Massamba Diop, Joe Sallins, and Abdou Sarr, as they perform their rhythm-driven music and dance alongside the WAMS Chorus and Dancers. A contemporary link between the music and dance traditions of West Africa and America, these artists blend the fiery Wolof drumming of Senegal tama drums with electric bass, the percussion spectacle of Vacca’s innovative fusion of Jazz, and the acrobatic traditional dancing and drumming of Abdou Sarr. This mix of cultures, disciplines, traditions, innovations, exceptional student performers, and life-long professionals, makes this program uniquely suited to excite and inspire a wide range of students and teachers.
